Description

Siproeta stelenes is a large species présent in USA South, Carribean Islands, Mexico, Panama and South América with 5 subspécies Siproeta Stelenes Meridionalis is présent in South part of South América , mainly Brazil Amazonas , Paraná, Rio Gde Do Sul , Paraguay ,Argentina, etc Member of Nymphalidaé/Nymphalinaé family group Discover by Frushtorfer 1909 Common Name is Malachite.The butterflies look particularly beautiful when seen at rest, with sunshine streaming through the translucent green windows on the wings.

This widespread and common species is found in a many different habitats including lowland and mid-elevation rainforest, and deciduous forests, but is most commonly seen in secondary habitats, including roadsides, riverbanks, orchards and gardens. It occurs at altitudes between 0-1400m.
