Summary
[edit]DescriptionBrakrivier near Prieska, rivers and dolerite intrusion.jpg |
English: Looking north over the Karoo, Northern Cape, South Africa, during a flight between Dubai and Cape Town. At centre, to the immediate left of the Ongers-Brak confluence, is a dolerite saucer, with Biega se Berg (1,102 m) situated at it centre. It is possible that the sill was more continuous and gently folded, so that areas folded into higher areas have been eroded, leaving only the dolerite in the trough behind, with the resultant oval shape. The Ongers River (from below) joins the Brak River (from the right) near this mountain, and the Brak has a confluence with the Orange River in the background of the picture. The river beds of the Ongers and Brak rivers are densely vegetated with Acacia trees which benefit from occasional floods and subterranean water, giving the illusion of standing water. |
