Bragar Whalebone Arch This is the Whalebone Arch erected by Murdo Morrison at his home at Bragar. It is the jawbone of a whale which was washed ashore on the west coast of Lewis in 1921 with a harpoon still embedded in it. The "stun" charge in the nose of the harpoon failed to detonate on impact and the whale escaped with the harpoon still in position. It came ashore with extensive ropes trailing from the harpoon, which now hangs as part of the monument. At some time since NB2947 : Whalebone Arch was taken, the bones have been clad in GRP.
