Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Eight members of the Bitterroot Back Country Horsemen (BBCH) braved rain and cold weather on Saturday, October 15th to help the Bitterroot National Forest repair the popular Larry Creek Trail on the Stevensville Ranger District. The group built 60-feet of turnpike to help harden a section of trail that became muddy after heavy snow melt. The work involved hauling seven yards of gravel and 120 feet of timber retainers to the work site. A ditch was dug and a culvert was set to help drain the wet area. The finished turnpike is four feet wide with gravel six inches deep held in place by retaining timbers. The area is still saturated and won't firm up until early next summer. This is a popular hiking, biking, and horseback riding area that gets heavy use, so once things firm up the flow of traffic will be directed onto the turnpike and off the surrounding vegetation.
