Title
Bow brooch (front)
Description
English: Eroded and incomplete Roman bow brooch of uncertain type. The bow has a rounded D-shaped cross section with no evidence of any mouldings or surface decoration surviving. The foot of the bow and the catch plate are missing and the bow now thins to a point. The head has flat sides with a suggestion of a central rib at the top, remnants of the wings survive at the front of the head. It is unclear whether the brooch employed a hinge or spring mechanism
