Title
Bow Brooch
Description
English: Incomplete copper alloy Rosette bow brooch of the keyhole type, of 1st Century AD date. The brooch is decorated with engraved double palm-leaf motif and possible remains of lead fill and/or silvering/tinning. The circular decorative plate and the pin are missing and would have been attached by a single rivet through the perforated plate. The fantail foot is much reduced because of damage. The wings have also been damaged. The spring would have been held by a simple overturn in the plate. The recessed shoulder beneath the wing has a low moulding. The rear of the brooch exhibits coarse file marks.
