English: Bow, violin, pernambuco stick, round and slightly concave; ebony screw top cap with two sterling silver (.) and mother-of-pearl eye to end; moveable ebony frog with silver nickel bottom plate and mother-of-pearl slide and two mother-of-pearl eyes and sterling silver back, nickel silver ferrule connecting white horsehair to bone tip end of hatchet head, lapping is coiled two-toned possibly copper thread with alternating black thread. 1 violin bow maker unknown, England, 18th century pernambuco, nickel-silver, sterling silver, ebony, mother-of-pearl, length 740 mm, weight 59.2 g stamped ‘DODD’ above frog, ‘XVI’ on stick, ‘X’ on bottom plate 1998.60.383 Dodd is regarded as one of the finest English bow-makers. This example of a production bow using the name to market their copy. |
