Description
English: Boundary stone 63 in Näränperä, Tornio, Finland. Made in 1880 from Vyborg granite, this particular stone replaced an older stone (from the 1820s) in the same place. The stones were originally erected to mark the border between what is nowadays known as Haparanda in Sweden and Tornio in what was then the Grand Duchy of Finland, a part of the Russian Empire. When Finland became independent in 1917, the Russian coat of arms (the two-headed eagle) was replaced with the Finnish coat of arms (lion) seen on the upper part of the stone.
Suomi: Vanha rajapyykki 63 Tornion Näränperässä, tehty Viipurin graniitista. Pystytetty Ruotsin ja silloisen Venäjän keisarikuntaan kuuluneen Suomen suuriruhtinaskunnan rajalle vuonna 1880, jolloin se korvasi paikalla 1820-luvulta olleen vanhemman rajakiven. Kun Suomi itsenäistyi vuonna 1917, nykyisessä kivessä aikaisemmin ollut Venäjän kotkavaakuna sai väistyä kuvassa näkyvän leijonavaakunan tieltä.
