Boulevard High School

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Boulevard High School, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
The northern (Anlaby Road) end of Boulevard, looking north from No.5 across the junction of Malm Street towards the old Boulevard High School. The school opened in 1895 with provision for 290 boys and 290 girls including infants and juniors but by 1907 had become just a secondary school. The pioneering aviatrix Amy Johnson went to school here from 1915 to 1922 and went on to become famous in her own lifetime for making various (largely unsuccessful) attempts to beat long distance flying records. Amy died while flying for the Air Transport Auxiliary during World War Two, when on 5th January 1941 her plane crashed into the Thames estuary and her body was never recovered. The high school moved to new premises in Pickering Road in 1940 when it became the Kingston High School, and by 1990 the old school buildings on Boulevard had been converted into apartments called Rosedale Mansions.
