Notes | George Hepplewhite translated Roberts Adam’s ideas into a practical pattern book for everyday furniture. His Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer’s Guide (published in 1788, two years after his death) allowed for the popularisation of Adam’s ideas. The two part secretaire bookcase characterises Hepplewhite’s adaptations of lightness and elegance and removal of unnecessary ornament and especially in detail as mahogany glazing bars on doors of glass fronted cabinets. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
