Summary
[edit]DescriptionBodmin Radio Station buildings - geograph.org.uk - 169892.jpg |
English: Bodmin Radio Station buildings. A visitor adds:
This was the Bodmin Beam Wireless Station, opened for service on 25 October, 1926. It was the UK transmitting station for Marconi's UK-to-Canada Beam Wireless Service, the first transoceanic shortwave wireless telegraph service in the world. It transmitted signals to a shortwave receiver at Marconi's Yamachiche Beam Wireless Station near Montreal, Canada. The UK receiver station was the Bridgwater Beam Wireless Station. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/129206. The Station remained in operation until March 31st, 2002. It was therefore the oldest and longest running operational short wave station in the world when it was finally closed due to termination of the operating contract with the customer. |
