Description |
English: A complete 17th century silver bodkin, or headdress pin. The terminal is circular and concave, functioning as an ear scoop. This is followed by a narrow waist, then a circular perforated segment. A transverse rib seperates these circular sections from the main body of the bodkin. An elongated rectangular aperture (9.5mm long) begins 10mm rom the transverse rib. This aperture is bordered by two sets of horizontal etched lines. Two more horizontal lines occur 5mm later, and the subsequent rectangular panel is decorated with an etched cross-hatched pattern. Differently sized vertical lines decorate the first rectangular panel, and beneath the cross-hatched panel. The subsequent 15mm of the bodkin has an etched double lined zig-zag. The etched decoration is the same on both sides of the bodkin. half way along one side of the bodkin, at the bend, are the initials I and B. |
