English: Boat waiting to enter Common Lock. The rise at this lock, just 4'6", is unusually small. It is interesting to speculate whether a couple of feet extra rise at Bagnall Lock 3/4 mile downstream (5'7"), and at Hunt's Lock 1/2 mile upstream (5'8") would have saved the need for this lock. |
