| Description |
The traditional entrance into Bulguksa is through these staircases. The bottom half with 17 steps is named the Blue Cloud Bridge while the top half with 16 steps is the White Cloud Bridge. They symbolize the rise from the mortal world to the afterlife as they lead to the temple gate. As seen here, the staircases are no longer in use for preservation considerations, and I will need to climb up to the gate level through a side ramp. The staircases are collectively National Treasure No. 23, while a similar, shorter set of staircases 200 feet or so to the left are National Treasure No. 22. |
