35 mm slide; color. Scientific Classification: Kingdom: Animalia; Phylum: Chordata; Class: Aves; Order: Pelecaniformes; Family: Sulidae; Genus: Sula; Genus species: Sula dactylatra. Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 74-86 cm; Identification: The blue-faced booby is mostly white with black or dark brown flight feathers and tail. Its bill and feet are yellow. The booby's facial skin is gray-black around the bill; Habitat: Tropical seas; Diet: Carnivore: fish, squid; Reproduction: Boobies form monogamous pairs, building their nests on the ground in large colonies. Females lay 1-2 eggs each year that are incubated by both parents for 43 days. If there are two eggs, the older chick will attack and eject its younger, smaller sibling from the nest. Fledging occurs at 109-151 days; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: The blue-faced booby is the largest booby species.
