Blaison-Gohier (Maine-et-Loire)
Les stalles sont au nombre de 40, elles sont en chêne et elles datent du XVème siècle. Ni le financeur, ni le donneur d’ordre, ni le maitre d’œuvre, pas plus que les artisans ébénistes et sculpteurs qui les ont façonnées, ne sont connus. Les stalles servaient aux chanoines et chapelains qui s'asseyaient, les premiers en hauts, et les seconds en bas. En 1811, les stalles sont nominatifs : le curé s'assoie sur la stalle n°5, le maire sur la stalle n°6, son adjoint sur la n°7, etc. Les sculptures seraient symboliques de la lutte du Bien et du Mal.
The church has 40 oak stalls dating from the fifteenth century. There is no known manufacturers of these stalls. The stalls were used by the canons and chaplains who sat the first in high, and the latter down. In 1811, the stalls are personal: the priest sits on the stall No. 5, the mayor of the stall No. 6, his deputy on No. 7, etc. The sculptures are symbolic of the struggle between Good and Evil. |
