When hesaw he could not get into thebag, he just picked it upand carried it off. The jokewas on the hunter after all.Look at him. Doesnt he lookbold enough to do such a trick? Look back at your Februarynumber of Birds and see ifhe is anything like the BlueJay. He is not afraid of the snowand often times he and his matehave built their nest, and theeggs are laid while there is stillsnow on the ground. Do youknow of any other birds whobuild their nests so early? There is one thing about thisbird which we all admire—he isalways busy, never idle; so wewill forgive him for his funnytricks.

THE fruit of the cocoa-nut palm,(Cocos nucifera), which is themost useful tree of all its tribeto the natives of the regions inwhich it grows, is one of the most valu-able and important of commercial prod-ucts. On the Malabar and Corvoman-del coasts of India the trees grow in vastnumbers; and in Ceylon, which is pe-culiarly well situated for their cultiva-tion, it is estimated that twenty millions of the trees flourish. The wealth of anative in Ceylon is estimated by hisproperty in cocoa-nut trees, and SirEmerson Tennent notes a law case in adistrict court in which the subject indispute was a claim of the twenty-fifthtwentieth part of an acre of palms. Thetree is very beautiful and lofty, grow-ing to a height of from sixty to onehundred feet, with a cylindrical stemwhich attains a thickness of two feet.It terminates in a crown o
