ne 3. The 411 classes were scattered through 138 towns and every county inthe State. Newark led wdth 54 classes; Bayonne was next with 19; PerthAmboy had 17; Montclair, 16; Vineland, 12 and Woodbury, 11. Other townsranged from i to 8. Bergen County furnished the greatest number of townsin which classes were organized—18. The enthusiasm of both teachers andpupils was abundantly attested by many letters received from teachers. The annual Montclair epidemic of Blackbirds and Starlings, with theattendant newspaper discussions, appeared on time. The Fish and GameCommission handled the matter with excellent judgment and, while theSociety kept careful watch on the situation, it w^as not necessary for us totake any action. Wardens of the Commission used various methods to frightenthe birds from the shade trees, and the tempest in the teapot was abated.
