Prizes are offered:(i) ten dollars in gold for the most bird-houses occupied by birds other than Eng-lish Sparrows; (2) a silver cup to the schoolproducing the best essay from personalobservation by a pupil; (3) a silver cup forthe best-constructed bird-house. The people of Buck Hill Falls, Pennsyl-vania, have made a bird-sanctuary in theirvillage, and have arranged to have aBirdWeek annually. This year, April 17 to 24was set apart as a restful period, withopportunities of getting acquainted withour feathered protectors and the earlyspring flowers, and of seeing Nature inher great transforming act. Mr. Rufus Stanley has been conductingan elaborate system of reports on birdobservation from school-children, in Che-mung County, New York, which hasaroused strong local interest. The Star-Gazette of Elmira ofifered a long list of cash-prizes in a bird-house contest, and a sur-prising number of good boxes resulted.
