Text Appearing Before Image:
ent thatthe game belongs to the people, and thatpreservation, and the restrictions of thepresent excellent law, are made wholly infavor of rich men and swell sportsmen. The fallacy in the logic of this argumentis completely ignored; as is the lessonof experience, everywhere, that the people will not take care of the game thatis alleged to be theirs, but will let it bewasted by the few whose interest it is todestroy it as fast as possible, regardlessof what may come after their time. Against this onslaught upon law andorder in game-protective matters theCalifornia Fish, Game, and Forest Pro-tective League is making a sturdy fight. It has something worth fighting for.The sale of game in this State duringthe Exposition year, it is declared byHarry Harper, the spokesman of theLeague, will put five thousand market-hunters in the field, and will . . . placea bounty upon virtually every living game-object that swims, walks or flies. The National Association trusts localresistance will succeed.
