In fact, I find that the best workdone in geography is done in connectionwith the living world. During the winter, several Woodpeck-ers were noted by the children, and duringthe spring migration, among the fruittrees in the surrounding yard, an Oriole,Catbird, Thrush and Flicker were notedand identified. Miss May has also sent in some verycharming and attractive booklets pre-pared by members of her class, the text,written in composition form, comprisingwhat they had learned from the Educa-tional Leaflets and other sources. Thebooklets were illustrated by the coloredplates from the leaflets, and picturesclipped from newspapers and magazines,and were bound in artistic paper covers.

Stump Lake, formerly a part of the greatDevils Lake chain, has such a hardwood border, furnishing goodly coverwithin easy reach of the small mammals that abound on the prairie; a cir-cumstance that is taken advantage of by many families of both Hawks andOwls. Among these, a pair of Long-eared Owls made their home in this timberlast year, only a few rods from the farmhouse where I was staying
