Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Maheshvari. North wall of the jagamohan, Parashurameshvara Temple, Bhubaneshwar

This matrika is the best-preserved in the series. Her attributes include a rosary, fruit, and trident. The trident identifies her as Maheshvari, the female counterpart of Shiva.

The style of this figure is paradigmatic for the period (7th century Orissa) in which it was carved: full body, sweet expression, distinctive headdress, and large ear spools.
