Summary
[edit]DescriptionBexhill Station in the Rain - geograph.org.uk - 526555.jpg |
English: Bexhill Station in the Rain Looking up at the booking office from the platforms below. This is the third incarnation of the station on this site, the original being a wooden shelter further west near to present day Sainsburys, the second being a little nearer that fronted onto Devonshire Road and this, the third, opened in 1902 in response to the rapid development of Bexhill over the previous decade and an attempt by the SER to undermine the LBSCR by building a branch from Crowhurst to the town to shorten the journey to London. The result is a huge expanse of station that does not quite know what to do with itself. The ramps to booking hall are 200 yards long but leave a lot of dead space next to it and underneath it the net result being a station that these days looks a little tatty. Taken from under the canopy as the rain bucketed down from the heavens. |
