Summary
[edit]DescriptionBeta Pictoris b orbit animated (2013-2018).gif |
English: β Pic b's orbit is just one degree from being perfectly edge-on. In this movie, we see the planet pass behind the coronagraph mask (black circle) that's blocking the bright star, barely miss passing in front of its star, and reappear on the other side. This system also harbors a belt of rocky rubble (not seen in the movie). β Pic b creates a warp in the disk we can see. This movie is a 5 year time-lapse using 11 frames of data from the Gemini Planet Imager. |
