Summary
[edit]DescriptionBeta-haemolytic streptococci growth on blood agar and MHA, and Camp Negative.jpg |
English: Beta-hemolytic streptococci are a group of gram-positive bacteria that can cause complete hemolysis (breakdown of red blood cells) when grown on blood agar. This complete hemolysis leads to clear, transparent zones surrounding the colonies. Among the most clinically significant of these streptococci are those of the "Streptococcus pyogenes" species, which belongs to Group A streptococci (GAS). Other beta-hemolytic streptococci are categorized into different groups (B, C, G, etc.) based on their carbohydrate antigens. |
