Summary
[edit]DescriptionBerlin - Reichsbank Auswärtiges (15343289823).jpg |
Mitte - Kurstraße The Reichsbank building, which can be seen as a typical example of conservative modernism largely follows the sober and functional approach of the 1920s. Arch. Heinrich Wolff 1934-40. The Reichsbank extension suffered considerable damage during World War II. The upper floors were burnt out. The structure of the building remained basically intact though, thanks to the steel frame construction with reinforced block ceilings and concrete roofs. After the German Bundestag decided in 1991 to move to Berlin, various solutions were considered for the Foreign Office, before the decision was taken in 1995 to move into the former Reichsbank and Central Committee building. |
