Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The former imperial post office W 8 at Französische Straße No. 9-12 in Berlin-Mitte. It was built 1908 to 1912 by Postal Building Commissioner Ludwig Meyer to a design by Building Councillor Wilhelm Walter. The facade of red brick and shell limestone shows elements of Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque architecture, typical for the conservative architecture of representative postal buildings of the imperial era. In comparison, the interior of the building has a modern room layout, centered around the service area in the atrium. The window pediments of the facade show busts of men wearing traditional postal uniforms. The building is now used by serveral attorney's offices, real estate management agencies, the Berlin branch of the banking house BHF and the German Tax Payers' League, which has placed a debt clock at the front. The building has been designated a historic landmark.
