| Description |
Savski venac - Kralja Milana/Cvetni trg The Manege Building was built around 1860, for the purpose of the Royal Equestrian squadron. During the First World War, the building of the National Theater was damaged, so it was necessary to find a temporary location, and the theater moved into the Manege Building. On the night of September 12, 1927, the whole building burnt down. The Russian architect Nikola Krasnov planned the reconstruction of the building in 1927. A floor was added, as well as an extension over the south facade. The facade was further decorated by a serie of architectural motifs and figures by the sculptor Vojislav Ratimirović Šikoparija. The building was again burnt down in 1997 and rebuilt according to the design of the architects Zoran Radojičić and Dejan Miljković. The use of new materials such as glass and steel completely changed the appearance of the old structure. On the other hand, Nikola Krasnov's facade was rebuilt and incorporated into the glass facade. Since it's reopening, it has been the Yugoslav Drama Theater. |
