Description

A. Not all elements of the composition include underdrawing. The crosses at Calvary were painted without a sketch – probably because of the ease of their execution.

E. There is a very detailed underdrawing around the figures, with hatching (parallel lines) indicating areas that were to be later shaded. Such preparation suggests that the paint layer was to be applied later by an assistant.
