Two other units onactive duty are the313th Signal Opera-tions Battalion, composed of NewEngland Telephone and TelegraphCompany men under the commandof Lt. Col. M. V. McCormick, su-pervisor of wages on the generalplant personnel supervisors staff inBoston, and the 66th Signal Opera-tions Battalion, from the New YorkTelephone Company, with MajorG. W. Beyea, division plant su-pervisor, Bronx-Westchester Area, incommand. Included in these unitswhen called were, respectively, 18officers and 25 enlisted specialists and18 officers and 15 enlisted men. Atfull strength, each would consist of26 officers and 526 enlisted men.The mission of these units is to pro-vide the communications facilities atthe headquarters of an Army. E. C.Cover, Secretary of the EmployeesBenefit Committee of that company.Among the 21 officers and 12 enlistedmen enrolled, however, were a num-ber from the Long Lines Departmentand the Western Electric Companyin that area. As primarily a head-quarters staff unit, its total strengthincludes only 24 officers and 91 en-listed men. Its mission is to providethe staff and personnel required forthe supervision ot a Signal Base De-pot group, with both supply and rearechelon maintenance functions. The 303rd Signal Service Bat-talion, THQ, the largest of theseunits, may serve as an example ofthe seasoned quality of these BellSystem cadres. Its commanding of-ficer has had 28 years
