Col. George L. Walker is commercial manager at Manistee for the Michigan Bell Telephone Company employees, the Navy is the mostpopular service, drawing almost 40percent of the total number. Little information is as yet avail-able concerning the assignments inwhich the Systems employees gen-erally are serving. Efforts are beingmade, however, to assist the Servicesin identifying the communicationsskills of recruits from the System.This program was first accomplishedthrough Company reports to the of-fice of the Chief Signal Officer of theArmy and the communications divi-sions of the Navy and Air Forceabout the background of all menwith appreciable telephone experi-ence who were entering those serv- ices. The practice had been set upwith the Signal Corps earlv in theWorld War II emergency, and atits request was re-instituted lastAugust and was extended to theNavy ami Air Force.
