And, in addition, a growingarmy of Pioneers dedicate themselves totheir fellow man by giving their sparetime to an imposing range of community.service activities in hundreds of localitiesacro-ss the United States and Canada. ■ Pioneering has always enjoyed theenthusiastic endorsement of tele-phone industry top management. Suchsupport is not surprising, in view of Pio-neerings broad values. When co-workers and their familiesspend week-ends and vacations on tripsand tours, spend evenings together study-ing rapid reading, or discussing art andmasic, it is because they find personalsatisfaction and pleasure in each otherscompany. When Telephone Pioneers send cardsto sick members, visit homes, make tele-phone calls, and comfort the grieving,they reveal themselves as humane peo-ple. Such inbuilt solicitude for membersgenerates solicitude among other co-workers. This, too, is of value to all. When Telephone Pioneers go out intocommunities and share their sight withthe blind, when they share their handswith the physically handicapped, whenthey share their minds with the mentallyretarded, they not only help those inneed, but they build a warm image ofthe telephone man and woman in thecommunity.
