Thenew method has already been usedin the field, and has been found torequire much less effort than previousmethods. Pre-lashing equipment has not sofar been designed to handle the larg-est sizes of cables, but the present pre-lashercan take care of at least 75 per-cent of all aerial cable installations. Other improvements in cable con-struction are achieved by new typesof cable terminals having electricalprotection built into the same blockswhich contain the terminal bindingposts, and a new type of mechanicalsplice closure at present under devel-opment.
