Summary

[edit]
Description
English: "Belfast, Northern Ireland, with visibly green countryside signaling the onset of spring." – Caption by astronaut Chris Hadfield on board the International Space Station.

This is one of a set of eight pictures of Ireland taken from earth orbit that were posted on the internet by Hadfield to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day in 2013.

The city of Belfast on the northeast coast of Ireland is at the mouth of the River Lagan where it empties into Belfast Lough. Carlingford Lough and the Ards Peninsula are at the bottom of the picture. The original image has been rotated 90 degrees to the left to present a more familiar orientation.
