Description

עברית: בית שערים הוא אתר ארכאולוגי השוכן בגליל התחתון. במקום התקיים יישוב יהודי חשוב בתקופת בית שני,

המשנה והתלמוד. באתר התגלו מערות קבורה רבות ששימשו את תושבי המקום ויהודים מהתפוצות שבאו להיקבר ליד קברו של רבי יהודה הנשיא

מערת המוזיאון - מספרה 28 . במקור שימשה המערה כמאגר מים, ובהמשך הוסבה לבית מלאכה לייצור זכוכית, על שינוי זה מצביע גוש זכוכית ענק שמשקלו כ-9 טון. בעת העתיקה נהגו לייצר גושי זכוכית גדולים, לשבור מהם חתיכות קטנות יותר ולשלוח אותן לבתי המלאכה. נראה כי פגם כלשהו בזכוכית הביא להשארתה במקום. כמו כן במערה נחצבו כוכים ששימשו את הפועלים כדי להימלט מן החום העז שמלווה בהפקת זכוכית.
