[edit]DescriptionBede dictating to a scribe.JPG |
English: In one of Christopher Whall's windows in the Lady Chapel of Gloucester Cathedral he has depicted St Patrick, St Bede, St Helen, St Bridget and St David of Wales. Below he has painted vignettes which depict scenes in the lives of each Saint. St Bede is shown dictating the last lines of his translation of the Bible. In Whall's own notes on the Gloucester windows he added "Write quickly" (He died as the last verse was written). However this inscription does not appear on the window or has perhaps faded with time. |
