Notes Signature cloth made during WW2 by members of the Albany Sub-Centre of the NZ Red Cross Society. In addition to the names of Albany Red Cross committee members, the embroidered names are believed to include those of men from the Albany area serving during WW2. It was sent overseas to the NZ Base Hospital in Egypt (1 NZGH) where it was used as a bed cover. The bedcover was given to the donor approximately 40 years ago by Sister Ina Coralie Healey, New Zealand Army Nursing Service who was Charge Sister at 1 New Zealand General Hospital. She later wrote that it was a “bed cover made by the then Albany Red Cross members. … We used it overseas at the Base Hospital in Egypt – so a few Northern soldiers slept under it.” Signature cloths like this were often made as a fundraiser, with a small fee paid for each name embroidered onto the cloth.
