Summary
[edit]DescriptionBeacon Hill (district) - geograph.org.uk - 164218.jpg |
English: Beacon Hill (district) The car may be hoping to get to the green traffic light just visible where this road meets the A350 before it changes.
Beacon Hill was noted for its production of sand and lime bricks, using materials extracted from the quarry situated in this square. The bricks were steamed rather than fired, and this produced a very hard, durable brick that was available in a range of colours. Beacon Hill bricks were used extensively throughout the county and may be readily recognised. The quarry is now exhausted and production has ceased. It is now being used for landfill. |
