| Description |
English: Seattleites looking for a place to swim could also go to West Seattle. In this 1911 photo, women and girls wade in the shallow water on a calm summer day, while others watch from the pier. Some of the girls are wearing their play clothes in the water. At this time, women wore bathing dresses which covered most of their bodies.
File:Swimmers at Alki Beach, Seattle, ca 1906 (MOHAI 2939).jpg is dated by MOHAI as c. 1906; it is a hand-colorization of the present image, which they date 1911. Obviously, at least one of these dates has to be wrong. |
