Description
Caption from the museum's website: According to the Bible, the Lord told Abraham to leave his ancestral home and move to Canaan. "He took his wife Sarah, his nephew Lot, all the property they had collected, and all the dependents they had acquired in Haran, and they started on their journey to Canaan" (Genesis 12:5). Jacopo treats this biblical theme in the manner of a rustic genre scene, giving special attention to the portrayal of the various animals and to the glowing copper and ceramic vessels. To meet the popular demand for these large pastoral paintings, Jacopo relied on the assistance of his son Francesco.
