Description
Simple English: A barber is someone who cuts hair and shaves beards. Usually, it is men who go to a barber. Women usually go to hairdressers instead. Barbers sometimes have a pole outside, which is red and white in most countries. Barbering is a most ancient and honorable profession, with a very interesting history. Barbering is the practice of cutting or trimming hair and includes shaving or trimming facial hair. Besides cutting hair, barbers also shampoo and style hair, mostly for male clients. English: A barber is a person whose occupation is mainly to cut, dress, groom, style and shave men's and boys' hair. A barber's place of work is known as a "barbershop" or a "barber's". Barbershops are also places of social interaction and public discourse. In some instances, barbershops are also public forums. They are the locations of open debates, voicing public concerns, and engaging citizens in discussions about contemporary issues.

Im Mittelalter und in der beginnenden Neuzeit wurden im Bereich der Körperpflege, Wundheilung und Krankenpflege tätige Personen wie Bartscherer, Badeknechte und Krankenpfleger als Barbiere oder Balbierer bezeichnet. Wie der Bader pflegte der Barbier vorwiegend die Behaarung von Männern. Ihm oblagen auch Zahnextraktionen, Aderlässe und Klistiere.
Español: Barbero o barbera es la persona cuya ocupación es afeitar, cortar y acondicionar el pelo o cabello. Su lugar de trabajo se le conoce como "Barbería" o "Casa del Barbero". Las Barberías eran también lugares de interacción social y discurso público. En algunos casos, las barberías eran también foros públicos. Eran lugares de debates abiertos, servían para expresar la preocupación pública y la participación de los ciudadanos en los debates sobre temas de actualidad. También influyeron en ayudar a formar la identidad masculina.
Français : Un barbier est une personne, dont le métier consiste à entretenir les cheveux et/ou la pilosité faciale des hommes. Son métier est proche de celui d'un coiffeur, en plus spécialisé. Il doit savoir raser de près et à blanc. Le barbier est un statut qui a disparu en 1989 ainsi que le titre de Maître Barbier.
Italiano: Il barbiere è l'addetto al taglio dei capelli e alla rasatura della barba. Il suo lavoro si svolge di solito in bottega (comunemente detta barbieria o anche salone), ma in caso di necessità e su richiesta del cliente, può intervenire anche a domicilio. Il termine spesso si accomuna con quello di parrucchiere (esclusivamente per uomo), quando l'artigiano, oltre alla rasatura, è specializzato per il taglio e per le acconciature più elaborate dei capelli.
فارسی: آرایشگاه مردانه یا پیرایشگاه به مکانی گفته می‌شود که اصلاح و آرایش موی مردان صورت می‌گیرد که جنبه آرایشی و بهداشتی دارد. واژه آرایشگر به شخصی که این کار را انجام می‌دهد اطلاق می‌گردد. به این مکان سلمانی نیز گفته می‌شود.

در گذشته امر تراشیدن و اصلاح ریش و سبیل مردان نیز برعهدهٔ آنان بود که امروزه با رونق تیغ‌های ریش‌تراش و ریش‌تراش برقی، این کار کمتر به آنان سپرده می‌شود. آرایشگری در ایران به‌عنوان «هنر دهم» به ثبت رسیده‌است.
