Summary
[edit]DescriptionBankside, Stoneferry in Hull - geograph.org.uk - 1148299.jpg |
English: Bankside, Stoneferry in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The 467' (141m) 'Reckitt's' Chimney is in the background. As can be seen, the chimney has kinks in it and this is supposedly due to the strong winds acting on the structure as it was built using the continuous concrete pouring method during the February gales in the early 1970s! At that time, it was reputed that this very slender chimney had the highest height to width ratio of any similar structure anywhere in the world (it may even still be the case now!). Recently, I've been told that the chimney was built using 'excess' concrete from the Humber Bridge project which was on-going at that time. |
