Description
Deutsch: Der Bananenfalter (hier ein Caligo atreus), ist ein Schmetterling (Tagfalter) aus der Familie der Edelfalter Nymphalidae. Die Gattung ist von Mexiko bis Südamerika verbreitet, die meisten Arten sind im Amazonasbecken zu finden. Die Falter leben im Flachland und steigen meist nicht über 1000 Meter auf. Die vertikale Verbreitung endet bei 1600 Metern. *** Gesehen im Schmetterlingshaus auf der Insel Mainau.
English: Owl butterflies, of which there are around 20 different species, are members of the genus Caligo, in the brush-footed butterfly family Nymphalidae.
