English: Uncolored etching of a a balloon aloft over a city with crowds below. Two figures are in the gondola waving flags. Handwriting in the margin identifies the scene as Sadler's balloon at Dublin on October 1, 1812. James Sadler (1753-1828) launched from Belvedere House, near Drumcondra, a suburb in Northwest Dublin, in an attempt to cross the Irish Sea. He was forced down in the water and almost drowned before rescue arrived.
