Description
Español: Diorama en el Museo Nacional de Costa Rica que representa el baile de la Yegüita. Esta danza folclórica se celebra el 11 de diciembre en la ciudad de Nicoya, Guanacaste, en honor a la Virgen de Guadalupe, patrona de la ciudad. La danza se origina en una leyenda: un par de indígenas reñían por motivos desconocidos. Una mujer, testigo de la pelea, rogó a la Virgen de Guadalupe que la detuviera para que los hombres no se mataran. Entonces, apareció una yegua negra que separó a los contendientes, milagro que entonces se atribuyó a la Virgen. Para la celebración, se realiza una procesión con la imagen de la Virgen, delante de la cual danzan, al son de melodías indígenas, unos personajes que representan a la Yegüita y los indígenas de la leyenda, representados por figuras artesanales elaboradas para la ocasión.
