Description

Badger Flat threadplant, Nemacladus species (unnamed), California, White Mountains, Westgard Pass, Cedar Flat, White Mountain Road, Owens Valley drainage, elevation 2240 m (7350 ft).

Threadplants always push the limits of my meager field-going photographic equipment. Previously confused with Nemacladus sigmoideus, this soon-to-be-named new species differs in some tiny details (there being no other kind of details in threadplants), including the maroon stripes on 3 of the flower lobes. So far it has only been found in the upper sagebrush and pinyon-juniper zones of the Inyo and White Mountains in Inyo and Mono counties, California. Given how inconspicuous this plant is, exploration of the pinyon-juniper zone in nearby mountain ranges to the east, such as the Silver Peak, Last Chance, and Panamint mountains may eventually extend the known geographic range.

Will update this information once the new name is formally published.
