Inscription InfoField | People executed by the Nazi military justice system Built for the Braunschweig garrison in 1876, the military firing range at Buchhorst in Braunschweig was in use until 1962. During the Nazi era, at least 25 soldiers and civilians were shot at the nothernmost of the eleven filing range backstops. Those killed had been sentenced to death in the Nazi militarty justice system, convicted of desertion or for being resistance fighters in the People´s Court. Otto Kauffelt (1915–1940), Leo Pionke (1922–1944), Walter Siebert (1920–1944) und ‘Night-and-Fog’ prisoners Arnould van de Walle (1898–1944) und Marcel Wastelain (1906–1944) were all held at Wolfenbüttel Prison prior to their execution. A memorial was first established at the site in 2003. |

Built for the Braunschweig garrison in 1876, the military firing range at Buchhorst in Braunschweig was in use until 1962.
During the Nazi era, at least 25 soldiers and civilians were shot at the nothernmost of the eleven filing range backstops. Those killed had been sentenced to death in the Nazi militarty justice system, convicted of desertion or for being resistance fighters in the People´s Court.
