Title
BROOCH
Description
English:

An incomplete copper alloy Colchester derivative brooch dating to the period AD c. 43-150. The catchplate is incomplete and the pin is missing. The bow appears to have been bent back towards where the pin would have been, and tapers from 7.41mm to 2.29mm, where it continues to what remains of the catchplate.

At the head of the pin there are the remains of two broken pins, one either side. There is a ridge that holds the two spring mechanisms, with complete but undecorated wings extending one either side. These wings are 2.37mm thick and 5.03mm wide, and measure 18.64mm in width. The ridge which contains the spring mechanism is flanked by flattened metal, and continues down the bow until it tapers from 7.41mm to 2.29mm. It measures 40.67mm in length and weighs 4.99g.
