Title
BRACELET
Description
English:

Late Iron Age or Roman copper alloy probable bracelet fragment of Beaded type and probably of 1st century AD date

The bracelet is fragmentary, represented by less than half of the original (with a surviving length of 43.9mm and a weight of 19.7g), comprising four ‘beads’. The curve of the object is comparatively tight (with an original internal diameter of approximately 30mm, and 50mm external), suggesting its use as the side part of bracelet. The beads are globular (10-11mm wide, 9-10mm thick and 12mm long) and are circular sectioned, rather than D-shaped or flat at the rear. The surface is heavily corroded and any applied decoration does not now survive. The bracelet narrows between the beads (with a minimum diameter of 6.7mm) with now mouldings between the beads. There is no evidence for a terminal at either of the ends. The corroded surface has a mid-green patina but is mostly heavily-pitted and with patches of bright-green active corrosion.

The fragmentary state and heavy surface corrosion makes the identification uncertain. The curvature is even and consistent, suggesting its use as a bracelet but the small diameter may suggest that the bracelet was longer than it was deep.
