Français : Cette carte de la Guyane de 1657 fait apparaître le lac Parimé, lac légendaire réputé pour être l’emplacement de la ville de Manoa ou Eldorado. Nicolas Sanson, qui est le cartographe du roi de France, Louis XV, mélange ici des informations légendaires avec des informations scientifiques. D’autres représentations cartographiques témoignent de cette coexistence : on retrouve ce lac imaginaire sur plusieurs cartes de l’Amérique du Sud du 16e au 18e siècle. Les conquérants européens croyaient à l’existence, quelque part dans le Nouveau Monde, de ce lieu d’une grande richesse. Walter Raleigh (1552-1618), explorateur anglais pensait qu’il était en Guyane aux pieds des montagnes qui séparent le Brésil du Venezuela.
